Minted during the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, this issue represents the classical gold coinage of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The obverse features the imperial portrait with the inscription “FRANC IOS I D G IMPERATOR AUSTRIAE REX BOHEMIAE ETC ET REX APOSTOLICUS HUNGARIAE.” The reverse displays the imperial coat of arms with the crowned double-headed eagle, a symbol of Habsburg authority.
