Argentina issues collectible coins to celebrate 2022 World Cup

The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic issued gold and silver coins in honor of the 22nd FIFA World Cup. The Argentine national team is one of the most titled football teams in the world. Argentines participated in 5 finals of the World Cup and won twice - in 1978 and 1986. As of October 27, 2021, the Argentine National Team takes 6th place in the FIFA ranking. The Argentines passed the qualification for the Championship on November 16, 2021.

The first match is scheduled for November 21, 2022 in Qatar. This country will host the World Cup for the first time in its history. The national stadium in the city of Lusail can accommodate 80 thousand spectators who want to enjoy the spectacle. The tournament will be held in a shortened period - only 28 days. The closing ceremony of the Championship is scheduled for December 18.

Recall that the first World Cup was held in 1930 in the capital of Uruguay - the city of Montevideo. Since then, all competitions have traditionally been held in May, June or July. However, in 2022, for the first time in history, the Championship will be held in the fall and winter due to the extreme summer heat in the host country. In addition, this is the last FIFA World Cup with 32 teams. 48 teams will take part in the next Championship

Both gold and silver collectible coins were minted as proof in the factory of the Royal Mint of Spain, and Argentina became the issuing country. The coins have the same design, which was developed by the Strategic Planning Department of the Ministry of Finance of Argentina in conjunction with the division of the Coin Issue Office.

In the center of the obverse of coins is an important fragment of a football match. This is a dynamic composition in which a football with a boot brought under it is shown at the beginning of its journey to the cherished dream - to get into the opponent's goal net. To the right of the rim is the inscription "REPÚBLICA ARGENTINA."

On the reverse of the coins are engraved the numbers 10 (gold) and 5 (silver), which simultaneously indicate the denomination of the coins and the numbers of players on T-shirts. The figures are pictured against the backdrop of the football goal grid. Immediately under the numbers is the name of the currency of the denomination of coins "PESOS" and the year of issue "2021." On top of the rim is the commemorative inscription "FIFA WORLD CUP CATAR 2022 TM."

The gold coin is made of 0.9999 precious metal. Its diameter is 23 mm, and its weight is 6.75 g. The circulation of the coin is 2 thousand copies. A silver coin is minted from 27 g of pure silver of the 925th test. Its diameter is 40 mm. The circulation of the coin is 7.5 thousand copies. The coins come in capsules and in individual cases with the logo of the Central Bank of Argentina. The coins are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

The Republic of Croatia issued a gold coin with a face value of 2 kuna

At the end of 2020, the Croatian National Bank issued a limited edition of 1 kuna gold coins. The coin attracted great interest from investors and collectors. The circulation was sold out in record time.

In 2021, the Bank of Croatia presented a new gold coin in denomination of 2 kuna. It was issued as part of a series of commemorative coins, and its name is "Two Coons of Croatia." The commemorative coin was minted at the Croatian Mint and issued in limited quantities - only 2021 copies. It is made of 0.9999 gold. Its diameter is 24.5 mm, and the weight of gold is 13.08 g. Each coin is packed in a special capsule and an original envelope.

The obverse of the coin depicts a marten. This image refers to the name of the monetary unit of Croatia - kune. In Croatian, kuna means "marten." Marten skins in the Middle Ages were a common means of payment in the country. They were used to pay taxes and duties. The image of the marten connects modern kunu with the history of coins of the Croatian people. At the bottom of the obverse of the coin is the coat of arms, which is placed among the branches.

As you know, the coat of arms of Croatia is a shield on which red and white squares are staggered. The top of the shield is decorated with a stylized crown, consisting of 5 links in the form of historical emblems of Croatia, the Republic of Dubrovnik, Istria, Dalmatia and Slavonia. The coat of arms has been known since the time of the independent Croatian kingdom (XI century). According to an old legend, the squares of the chess field on the coat of arms of Croatia appeared not by chance. Once the Croatian king Svetoslav Suronya, who ruled in the 10th century, played a game of chess with the Venetian doge Pietro II. There was an agreement between the players: the winner takes the right to own the cities of Dalmatia. As a result, Svetoslav won the game, hence the image of chess on the coat of arms of his kingdom.

On the obverse there are also inscriptions - at the top of the rim of the coin "REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA." On top in the middle, right over the image of the marten, the number "2" is minted - this is the face value of the coin. Slightly below is engraved the name of the currency - "KUNE."

On the reverse of the coin is a dynamic composition - a stylized image of a fish - tuna. Throughout the reverse, small wavy dashes are minted, imitating the texture of water. At the top of the reverse is the name of the fish - "TUNJ," and at the bottom is the year of production - "2021."

The design of the coin was created by the Croatian sculptor Kuzma Kovacic, who made many numismatic masterpieces. Kovacic is a professor at the Academy of Arts in Splin and a member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
